Stedman Elementary School

Printer-friendly version

There are few other schools as notable as Stedman - because it was essentially ground zero in the landmark court case that went to the Supreme Court, Keyes v. School District Number One, Denver, Colorado, that struck down de facto school segregation in the United States. The records of this very case are today held by the National Archives branch here in Denver (https://rediscovering-black-history.blogs.archives.gov/2018/07/31/keyes-...)

That today it is a diverse, multicultural school is a testament to change and progress. Preserving these schools is key for the city but alas, they are aging fast and running down.
