George Morrison, Sr. Residence

Printer-friendly version

Violinist and Jazz Band Leader George Morrison home. Morrison built the house in 1923 despite protests and a bombing attack during its construction. In the segregation era, top Black national acts and entertainers were hosted as guests in this home when the nice downtown Denver hotels had a Black ban. Mr. and Mrs. Morrison were great friends with the Jazz greats as George would sometimes perform with them professionally or for pleasure. Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington and Bill “Bojanges” Robinson are an example.
