Garden Place School

Printer-friendly version

Garden Place School (later known as Garden Place Elementary and currently as Garden Place Academy) is likely the second (possibly third) oldest continuously operating school building in Denver (the first is Dora Moore/Corona School). This building opened in 1904, where it has served students ever since. There are older school buildings, but only a handful that have been in continuous operation. The school opened in 1882 and multiple structures have been on this lot since. An 1893 building was added onto in 1902 and 1904-1905, with the 1893 portion being torn down in 1923 to become part of the new building, hence the 1904 date. It's shocking this place isn't already landmarked, not only considering the above but also that it is the last remaining of the five original schools in Globeville. To date, Globeville has one single Denver landmark and that is the shuttered Globeville (now Laradon) School.
